If you like the idea of working with and helping young children to learn and develop, caring for children’s needs whilst they are away from their family and in your care ? If you are kind, caring , trustworthy and patient but full of energy then a career in childcare could be just for you.
As a childcare apprentice you can expect to be involved in all sorts of areas from teaching and organising children’s activities, to feeding and changing them. The list of tasks you might carry out is exhaustive and the job can be very tiring but exceptionally rewarding.
Apprenticeships are an integrated programme of learning that combines on the job practical skills with off the job underpinning knowledge. They are suitable for learners who work with children from birth to 19 years old and their families in settings or services where the main purpose is childcare.
If you are aged 16 to 18 years you may be eligible for a fully funded apprenticeship (make sure either you or your employer contact us). If you are aged 19 plus you may be eligible for a partially funded place with your employer making a contribution.
Learn Plus Us offers apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeships in Childcare. You can expect a level 2 apprenticeship to take 12 months to complete and unlike lots of places you can enrol with us most days of the year.
The level 2 is for those working under supervision and new to the industry such as nursery assistants.
A level 3 advanced apprenticeship can take up to 18 months to complete but again you can enrol any time. This is for learners who work on their own initiative such as a nanny, nursery nurse, classroom assistant or childminder.
After successful completion of apprenticeships there is good scope for career progression.
Taking part in an apprenticeship will give you the chance to work and study at the same time as earning money and gaining a qualification. Remember when you are employed as an apprentice you are entitled to the same benefits as other employees including annual holidays.
Brief details of the framework are below:
1. Competence: You will take the certificate or Diploma in Children or young people’s workforce.
2. Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)- this is built into the competence qualification
3. Key/Functional Skills: Level 1 or Level 2 in communication/application of number/and IT. These are embedded into the qualification and some individual learners will also be required to sit these exams.
You will also be required to take a certificate or qualification in first aid.
Please note the framework for apprenticeships will change slightly on April 6th 2011 as has happened.
Studying for an apprenticeship with Learn Plus Us could not be simpler. You can even choose to study online using our online laser e learning and/or by attending our fully equipped training centre at flexible times, day , evening and weekends so as not to interrupt the learners/employers working week.
