Are you age 19 or over and thinking about Further Education?
If eligible, you can now apply for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan. They have been introduced by the UK government to support learners aged 19 and over studying advanced and higher level courses. If you are starting a course on or after 1 August 2019 you may qualify for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan. These loans help you to pay tuition fees for your course. If you wish to undertake a qualification at Level 3 – Level 6 you could qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan from the UK government. It is easy to apply, your household income is not taken into account and there is no credit check. If eligible you will not have to make any repayments until your income is over £25,725 a year but please keep in mind that Advanced Learner Loans are interest bearing and therefore your repayment amount will be greater than the initial course fees.
Am I eligible to receive a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan?
To be eligible you need to be:
Aged 19 or over at the start of your chosen course
Resident in the UK for at least 3 years
Studying an eligible course at an approved College or training organisation in England.
How do I apply?
If you are offered a place for an eligible course, you will be issued with an offer letter providing you with the information that you will need to make a loan application. You will need to complete an application and submit it to Student Finance England.

When do I apply?

What information do I need to provide when applying for a loan?
You will need to provide details of the:
The course you wish to study
The name of the College or training provider where you wish to study
The tuition fee you are being charged; and the amount of loan you wish to take out
Learn Plus Us will be able to provide you with these details. In addition, you will be required to provide your personal details, including name and address and evidence to proof of your identity.
How much loan can I apply for?
There is a maximum amount of loan available to you based on the type of qualification you are studying and its fee. You can apply for a loan for the maximum amount to cover your tuition fees or you can pay all or part of the tuition fees yourself.
Can I get additional support to help with childcare and travel?
You may apply to get money from the Loan Bursary Fund after you’ve received a letter approving your Advanced Learner Loan.
The money can help pay for things like:
- accommodation and travel
- course materials and equipment
- childcare
- classroom assistance for a disability or learning difficulty – once you’re assessed by your college or training provider
Does getting a loan depend on my income or credit history?
No. Your income and credit score is not part of the application.
Is there an upper age limit to apply for the loan?
No. There is no upper age limit.
I am a European Union (EU) student, am I eligible for a loan?
If you are not a UK national, you will need to provide evidence of your status, for example passport and documentary proof of eligibility and residency inside the UK. You will also need to provide a valid National Insurance (NI) number in order for the loan to be paid to the College or training provider on your behalf.
How do I decide if it is the right choice for me?

When do I pay back the loan?
You will not have to make any repayments until your income is over £25,725 a year.
What are the repayment rates?
The monthly repayment would depend upon salary after completing your course. You will pay 9% of any income over £27,295 a year.
Can I apply for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan if I am under 24 years of age?
Yes. The 19+ Advanced Learning Loan is available to you if you are aged 19 or above and studying a Level 3 qualification.
