Description
The Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship is a vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed junior hairdresser/stylist.
Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men.
Hairdressers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

COURSE OVERVIEW
- The Level 2 Hair Professional Apprenticeship is most suitable for learners seeking to work in, and develop their skills in a commercial setting. Its has been specifically designed to prepare learners for employment as a junior hairdresser/stylist.
- This apprenticeship requires learners to work in a commercial hairdressing salon, assessments must be carried out on real paying clients in line with commercial service times.
Course Duration
24 months
This qualification requires you to work in a real commercial salon, whereby assessments must be carried out on real paying clients in line with commercial service times. Learners will have weekly contact teaching and learning sessions with their dedicated tutor.
All apprentices will complete mandatory core skills and knowledge for hairdressing, including;
- Professionalism and values
- Behaviours and communication
- Safe working practices
- Consultation
Mandatory occupational routes for hairdressing include;
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
Learners will also develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include:
- Perming hair
- Hair relaxing treatments and techniques
- Hair extension service
Eligibility criteria: Learners must be aged 16+ and have lived in the EU for 3 years.
ENGLISH & MATHS REQUIREMENT
Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to take the tests for this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
WHAT COULD THIS QUALIFICATION LEAD TO?
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Graduate Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council.
